auto_sample_size statistics performance

I have a lot of tables that I gather statistics on using auto_sample_size. I recently upgraded from 11.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.4 and some of the tables are taking a lot longer. The problem is fixed by using a specific estimate_percent (say 20.) I was wondering if more information is available on this.
