Kits in Manufacturing

I'm familiar with the type of kits where the parent is stocking type K and and isn't stocked.

I recently started working for a manufacturer and they call what they are doing Kits, but the parent from the BOM is a stocked item and has a stocking type of M.

Are they using the term Kit (in JDE) incorrectly, or is there another type of Kit in JDE that I am unaware of?
