Tabbing bypasses picklist searchspec of a joined field

Hi,

I have a field based on a join. This field also has a picklist/pick applet. The issue is, when manually enetering value for the field (not launching the pick applet), and pressing tab, the user can enter a value which should not be selectable (through the picklist or pick applet search spec). I guess this is because it is a joined field and the search spec is not triggered at all. Any suggestion/solution? Many thanks!
