LockBox : Use of record types Payment and Overflow Payment

What is the exact difference between Payment and Overflow Payment record types?

According to my understanding "Payment" will record the receipt header information and "Overflow Payment" will record the transaction information to which the particular receipt will be applied to.

Is that correct?

If not, Is it possible to use only "Payment" record type to record both receipt and transaction information?
