What is the significance of Integration Component Field Required

Hi Experts,

We have a field which is set as Required at Integration Component Field Level and the same field is not required at BC Field Level.

When a request is submitted from an external system without giving any value for the field, the record is getting created which means IC Field Level Required is not enforced.

Can you please help me with the signficance of IC Field Required ?
