Has anyone found a way to process intervening life events in self-service and use the "Next" button

We are on 12.1 RUP7 and are using benefits self-service (BSS) to process all of our benefit enrollments.  In our testing earlier this year we noticed that preceding or intervening life events would back out the future life event.  When processing that intervening life event in self-service we would get a message saying "Your changes have been saved.  But the system has detected and outstanding life event for you.  Please click on Next to process it."  If we clicked on Next it would change the intervening life event status to Processed and Start the outstanding life event.  We would be
