number of source env files in Rel12. What are they for?

WE just finish the first round of upgrade from 11.510.2 to 12.1.3.  In the new REl 12.1.3, I found there are number of env files.

Can anyone educate me what are they for?  and When I should source them?

./apps/apps_st/appl/APPSPROJ1_ebsproj1app.env

./apps/apps_st/appl/customPROJ1_ebsproj1app.env

./apps/apps_st/appl/PROJ1_ebsproj1app.env

./inst/apps/PROJ1_ebsproj1app/appl/admin/adovars_PROJ1_ebsproj1app.env

./inst/apps/PROJ1_ebsproj1app/ora/10.1.3/PROJ1_ebsproj1app.env

./inst/apps/PROJ1_ebsproj1app/ora/10.1.2/PROJ1_ebsproj1app.env
