Is it possible to update the System Name for an instance in install base?

Hi All,


I am unable to update system name in IB. We are receiving an error 'Serial Number 5236-00002448 has Inventory Material Transactions. This Item Instance's Serial Number cannot be Updated'.

I have followed the steps suggested on metalink note How To Modify The System Name In Installed Base  (Doc ID 1945939.1), but still it is not working as expected.

Please assist.
