Upgrade error - ORA-01012 not logged in

Hello,

I am upgrading my test database from 11g to 12c, using the migrate tablespaces method.

I have modified the init parameter file to reflect the changes for new Oracle base..., modified the control file from backup,

set oracle sid, 

sp

SQL*Plus: Release 12.1.0.2.0 Production on Fri Sep 18 12:31:10 2015

Copyright (c) 1982, 2014, Oracle.  All rights reserved.

Enter user-name: / as sysdba
Connected.
SQL> STARTUP NOMOUNT pfile=initDBA99.ora
ORA-01012: not logged on
Process ID: 0
Session ID: 0 Serial number: 0

I am unable to attach the parameter file for your perusal.

Need help.
