log4j implementation in webcenter content

We need to implement custom logging in WCC. I have added log4j to the custom component classes. The log4j jar has been placed at $domain_home$/ucm/cs/custom/CustomComponent/lib folder. The code works fine on local(creates a log file & writes into it), but somehow unable to write into file on WCC server. the log4j.properties file is placed in the $domain_home$/ucm/cs/custom/CustomComponent/classes folder.

I think issue is the log4j.properties file not being read.  Where should it be placed in the custom component?
