Difference between physical server and Virtual server

Hi,

Can you explain the difference between Virtual server and Physical server & please explain the concept of Virtual servers.

We have planned to migrate the physical oracle eBusiness application physical servers to virtual servers. Is there any dis-advantage in migrating the physical server to Virtual server.

Will these virtual servers affect us in any way during patch or upgradation of applications.
