P4210 - basics on locator/subinventory at line level during Sales order processing?

Dear Community,

new to JDE, I am having troubles understanding the basics of assigning the correct locator on the line during sales order commitment.

I understand that the preferences play a role on defining the sourcing branch plant,

however I do not understand what drives the allocation of the locator, especially for non lot items.
