Significance of TAX Code in the Discount Model Configuration

What is the purpose/significance of having the tax code defined in the Discount Model Configuration (PDC/Pricing Center) even though Tax is calculated in OBRM on the Gross amount (i.e., after the Rating and Discounting) with the TAX code defined in the Product only.
