11.2.0.4 What is the maximum memory can be allocated to an instance?

RDBMS 11.2.0.4, AIX 6.1.    Physical memory 12GB.  Is the only instance on the server.  What is the maximum memory the instance can use when specify memory_target or memory_max. We would like to use as much as possible.   70% or 100%. Any formula?   Any reference or documentation is more than welcome.
