Can you create an asset but delay the depreciation of it for 1 year

I have no idea why users want to do this, but they would like to enter an asset in AM now but not start depreciation until next year.  I had them test out putting the assess into Received(Not in Service) status but that didn't work.  Depreciation was still calculated.  Thanks for any help you can give.
