Database Performance issue

Dear All,

We are using oracle EBS R12.1.2, DB version: 11.1.0.7. with 2 tiers, one for APPS and other for DB.

DB server is: IBM System x3400 M3 Server, with 8 GB RAM installed.
OS: linux

We are facing performance issue, many times users of different modules (AP, AR, order management...etc)complains that application becomes very slow, when dong any operation,add new records or doing any thing on the application; we don't have any operating system scheduled processes. Colleague of mine advised me to check the HDD I/O speed, and recommend to replace them with faster...

I had DBA training course many years ago, i remember that we can find the I/O ratios and figuer out what makes system very slow...
