What is the maximum memory can be allocated to database?

We are looking for a formula or percentage  when physical memory eg. 12GB was given and only one instance on the sever.  What is the maximum memory we can specify to the instance 80% or 70%, RDBMS 11.2.0.4 and AIX 6.1. Thanks
