String data type from data model appears as number in Layout Editor

Hi folks,

I've been doing some searching for a resolution to this issue but thus far no luck. I have a string field in a data model that, upon creating a new layout in layout editor, appears as a number. The values in this field can be either numbers, letters or a combination. When a value returns that has letters, the field appears blank in the layout editor results. The field does display correctly in a layout defined by an RTF template.

Some things that I tried and the results:

  1. Created an expression defined as STRING(BADGE_NBR); the new expression was seen as a number in the layout editor
