When is it safe to enable the COMSTAR writeback cache?
I am using COMSTAR to turn my ZFS zvols into fibre-channel targets. By default, the "writeback cache" is enabled. This significantly improves write performance (5X or more). I am wondering what risks I am accepting if I leave the writeback cache enabled -- and can any of them be mitigated.
If it matters a whole lot, this is my configuration:
Single Dell PE R720 running Solaris 11.2.
Qlogic QLE2562 dual 8Gb FC HBA
SAS attached Seagate Xyratex 84-disk enclosure.
I do not have separate ZIL / log devices.
The FC client is running Linux / CentOS 6.
