How do we limit a campaign lookup window to just active campaigns?

Hello,

I want to limit the lookup window that opens from an opportunity by clicking the magnify glass to just active campaigns. I can limit the list to on show the "active campaign" list but the users have the option to select a blank which removes all filters. How do I hide the "Campaign List" picklist or remove the ability to select a blank list?
