Oracle Licensing and Hard Partitioning

Hi

If I have a server with 2 x 4 core Xeon CPU's, under normal circumstances, I would require 4 database CPU licenses (using the 0.5 Xeon multiplier)  to cover it. But with hard partitioning (via Oracle VM Server), I am able to limit the CPU usage to just the 4 cores on one of the CPU's. Therefore reducing my license commitment to just 2 database CPU licenses.

My question is, What happens if I further reduce the allocation of the processor cores to just 2 cores on one of the CPU's. Does my license commitment also reduce to just 1 CPU license, or are you unable to subdivide a single processor using OVM hard partitioning?

Howdy, Stranger!
