Can you clock in/out of a Job without MES?

Oracle Applications : 12.2.4

My client is using MSCA and standard WIP functionality in the forms. I know the clock in and out option is available in MES, but we will not a be purchasing a license for this. I'm looking for suggestions on how to clock in/out of discrete jobs or a feasible work around. The current process will be to apply a resource transaction but the client would rather apply a "start" and "end" time. The goal is to track labor time on the manufacturing floor.
