Calculations in ARM

We are having 2 issues - one, writing calculations on attributes - they are creating strange exception errors that are hard to back out of.  Is there any documentation on Calculations - it doesn't exist in the Admin Guide.

Also - when trying to write a calculation against a custom attributes.  The summation to another attribute shows the correct amount in the Transaction List under "Explained Balance", but shows zero in the "Transaction Detail" section.  Is there a defect?
