Should transactions with a past closed end date automatically rollforward?

In 11.1.2.4 we can can't create a rule that says If a transaction's 'Closed Date' already past, then dont bring that transaction forward. When defining such a rule, we can only compare the 'Closed Date' to an absolute date, not to a dynamic date or a reference to another variable. Is there any way to get this to work?

In general for custom rules, is there a way  not to always have to use an absolute in the second value of a comparison?
