SLAM rules

We have defined SLAM rules related to accounting entries for Oracle Receivables system. In the past we were told that SLAM rules need to be setup again after any patches are applied in the system. Can someone please verify that SLAM rules are one time setup like other standard configurations or do we need to setup SLAM rules each time a patch is applied in the system.
