Material shortage function by sub-inventory

Hello everyone,

We have a need to have the Material Shortage function look at the sub-inventory available qty instead of the organization (as designed) to determine if there is a material shortage.  This is due to our current EBS setup where we have 1 operating organization (for inventory and EAM) with many sub-inventories in this organizaton. Although there are advantages to our current org structure, the Mat shortage function would be be better suited if it were at the sub-inventory level.

Are there any good ideas out there of how we can achieve this including possibilities for custom developments.
