E1 configurator passing segments from parent to child item

i know you can pull in a parent segment if the parent segment is know.

In our case we have many configured items and all those configured items can have something done to them. We moved the generic information to a generic item and call it from assembly 'P' inclusion rules when a y/n is answerd yes. ,The "generic item" relies on a segment from the parent to calculate the price correctly.

if the parent item were known you could do S200=KNOWNPARENTITEM=

Is there a way to traverse to the parent without knowing the item number?
