How to access UI data from OAF ViewObject in R12.2.4?

I have extended a ViewObject in EBS R12.2.4.  The Query for the pre-extented ViewObject does not have any bind variables, yet, when the customer enters a PartyName, the query will be filtered by that entry.  How do I get access to this data? This is probably a stupid question to a lot of other people, but I am very ignorant in this matter.  Please enlighten me.
