Subledger type not updated

We have a unique issue with respect to Sub ledger.

When we go thru Account balances by sub ledger, we could find that Sub ledger type is blank and sub ledger is updated.

2 questions:

1. We need to net the amount 55855.66 with some other object account.  How?

2. Subledger type Z accepts only numeric values now, but we need to make an entry with Sub ledger type Z with CT which is alpha now to net with some other object account.

As we know we cannot enter any Journal either omitting sub ledger or sub ledger type.  Then how this could have happened.  How to solve this issue?
