Can we use Excel 2013 template Xml Publisher reports

We were using Excel 2003 template for  some of our Xml Publisher reports and if record count exceeds 6500  then we are writing in next TAB. This is creating problem while reconciling the data as data is spreading  across multiple TAB.   When we are trying to create template Excel 2013 and running the report then report is completed with warning.  Can you please let us know , whether we can use Excel 2013 template or any alternative approach to get data in 1 tab  .
