Replacement - what happens when the warranty and ext. warranties are expired

I've created a warranty and ext. warranty for a part. Several months later, the part is isn't functioning properly. A replacement part order is entered and shipped.
If the warranty and extended warranty are still active, the replacement part would get the remaining duration of the warranty and on the ext. warranty, the current subline (old part) is terminated and a new subline (replacement partis added.
However, what happens if the warranty and/or ext. warranty are expired? Are there any updates to them at all.
