Need help - iSeries - data read from cache has a leading character that looks to be Unicode

We are having a problem as of late with a business function that is running on the server (db2).  There is some background in that we have had some issues where World/Xe files converted into 9.1 and were Unicode (should not have been) and have had to step back and re-convert.  About 2 weeks ago this specific business function returned expected data no matter where it was run.  Then starting a week and a half ago the data returned from the cache when run on the iSeries (running on a full client the data is returned as expected) has a Ý
