Huge PS file size with WaterMark

We are seeing a delay in printing the huge post script file.

Our Scenario is as below.

An RTF template that has a watermark generates a PDF file of 52Kb in size. pdf2ps converts pdf to postscript and the postscript file that gets generated is of size 15 MB. Without the watermark the ps file for the same template and PDF is only 3 MB. Is there a way we can have a watermark that is not an image which potentially can have a lesser file size.
