Shipment Number Assignment

Hi,

We are on tools and applications 9.1.  I'm trying to understand how JDE assigns a shipment number to a sales detail line when a date change is made.  In my example I have an order with multiple lines at varying statuses.  The line at 530 / 540 status was changed (request date moved in).  When I saved the change and re-inquired on the order the existing shipment number for that line was removed / cleared.  I went back a few minutes later and saw that a new shipment number was assigned.  It used an existing shipment number on the order
