adop failing validation checks

I have just installed an E-Business Suite 12.2.4 Vision environment using the Oracle supplied Virtual Appliances available on The Software Cloud. I am trying to familiarise myself with the new adop patching utility, but am hitting the following issue when running "adop phase=prepare" or "adop phase=fs_clone"

Validation successful. All expected nodes are listed in ADOP_VALID_NODES table.

[UNEXPECTED]adop is not able to detect any application tier nodes in FND_NODES table.

[UNEXPECTED]Ensure ICM is running and run autoconfig on all nodes

[UNEXPECTED]Error while checking if this is a multi node instance

I have run AutoConfig on the application tier, but to no effect
