11GR2 : dataguard failover questions

Hi,

We have a dataguard setup.     database version is 11.2.0.4

host 1:  primary

host 2:  standby

In case of disaster  ,  primary goes down and we activate  the standby  to  be as primary.      Now my question is the following

After host1  comes up,    can we start that database as   "standby database" .      or do we have to rebuild database in host 1 from  backup of database from host 2?

After disaster , we need the following senario

host1 : standby

host2 : primary

We are trying to avoid rebuilding the database in host 1.

Please advise
