How to automate unit and amount stock count snapshot

Hi,

   I have a requirement to automate the process of taking snapshot  for Unit and Amount instead of having user going to the UI and clicking "Take Snapshot" . What java class/function should I be calling in order to achieve this through a script( For now the idea is a nightly batch) or is there any other way to do it.

Any suggestion and ideas will be greatly appreciated.
