Possible to avoid Child Meter Update when Parent Meter is updated?

Hello Gurus,

Consider the following scenario:

1. Parent Asset - Plant

2. Child Asset - Coveyor Belt

If we use Parent / Child Meter functionality for this it works fine, excepting for when the Child is down yet the parent is running. So every reading entered on the Parent will go to the child which is incorrect. Therefore, is there any standard functionality to avoid this. I know, I could go to the child meter and disable the reading, but from a user perspective I think this would be a good enhancement? (Unless this already exists?)
