Questions on Historical Rates

Briefly we created a new consolidated ledger recently (May-15 period) but did not define historical rates, thus the system it seems was using spot rate.  We are planning on manually entering the historical rate starting with Dec-15.

My question is if we do this, what will happen in January 2016 for our retained earnings accounts?  Will the system automatically calculate a new historical rate when net income is rolled into retained earnings?  Or is there anything else that needs to be changed in Oracle to make it automatically calculate the new historical rate?
