How to prevent EC3.3 from trying to vault models references that have been broken

We have some imported geometry for a vendor model within an assembly that we do not wish to vault in Agile.  Once the external reference to the part has been broken within SolidWorks, it still wants to create a new design folder and vault it.  How do I permanently break this in a way that Agile recognizes?
