OTL Timecard Customization: Comments Field not accepting special characters

Hi All,

As part of customization, I added a  new Comments field to the OTL Timecard (R12). Everything is fine, except when some special characters are added (Russian, French etc also), the page errors out saying:


oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: java.sql.SQLException: Inserted value too large for column


This is occuring only when the ASCII length of the entered characters is more than 4500.  Ideally the page should not error out and should take only 4500 characters and truncate the remaining.

Please let me know how to avoid this error?
