Inconsistent Template Issues in CS 9.0 Communication Generation

We've been successfully using Communication Generation in CS 9.0 for a while now, and have hundreds of hard-copy letter templates that are regularly assigned and generated without issue.  Recently, however, we've run into a problem: when running Communication Generation for a batch of a given letter, it fails on a single, specific COMMON_ID.  The log file provides the following information (where "xxxxxxxxx" indicates the specific individual for which the process failed):
