how to restore from recent rman backup without current control file (urgent)

I have been searching the web and have found lots of related information, but nothing that seems to work for this situation and I am in an bind.....here is the scenario.  Recently we had failure of multiple system resulting in the loss of our primary Oracle 11g database running on a VM.  This machine had the database autobacked up nightly.  We had an archived VM image of the database machine from October.  The crash happened Dec 24th.  The plan was that the VM image could be restored (which is was) and the database brought up to sync from the last
