case sensitivity on username, password and table_name

I got acquainted with the fact that passwords got case sensitive in the transition from 10g to 11g (or was it already in 10g?) . Anyway, now under 12c I find that even the schema owner (user) and table names are case sensitive as well.

Has this been changed in 12c in particular? I didn't spend attention on this before but now in 12c the default behavious seems to have changed. Can anyone confirm this or set it right?
