Which is the Recommended and Best way to manage the Tablespace?

Hi Legends,

Which is the recommended and best way to manage or maintain the tablespace(datafiles) ? Either to Auto extend the existing file or to Add a new datafile when needed of size 4GB or 10GB.

How does the both differ from other? Also suggest from backup and restore point or recovery point how it is feasible?
