Database Upgrade to 12c- Queries

HI,

I have 2 Oracle 11gR2 databases running on a particular node. ASM 11g Infra is used for the same.

Now I want to upgrade one of Oracle DB to 12cR1 version on the same host using DBUA utility.

I want to know that for upgrading the database to 12cR1 I need to upgrade the ASM too. Correct me if I am wrong.

Now when the ASM is upgraded will  this cause any compatibility issue with the other 11g Oracle database running on that host.

If yes, can you please suggest me a plan to do this.

Any updates on this will be helpful.
