How can we prove that an Item is deleted from the item master? When this item is used it gives a red

I verified the item # in the F4111/F41112/F4101/F41021. the item# does not exist. I also searched the F4101T(obsolete - Item master tag file) the item which they say existed in 2014/2015 doesn't not exist in  thistable. On doing some research I found that we can update records of an item and change 2nd and 3rd item #. How can we prove that this program was used. I see we can run the P4101 global update or the R41803. I checked the submitted jobs and do not find this report in the submitted jobs. Please advise.
