Upgrade Grid only from 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4 & then Patch with latest PSU

Hi

I plan to upgrade the grid infrastructure software from 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4. The databases will come next but they will remain as 11.2.0.3 for now

I just want the grid to run on the higher/newer version to begin with.

After I have done the upgrade of grid, I also plan to install the latest PSU updates to the grid home.

Now the online documentation reassures me if I have the latest grid only installed and the databases are still on a lower version such as (11.2.0.3) I can still safely use opatch auto to install.

I am sure this is fine but how does opatch know my oracle home /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1 is 11.2.0.3 and should be ignored.
