MRP Messages for Kit Items

We have a significant number of MRP messages and are trying to find ways to reduce them.

We use kits for forecasting and BOM maintenance. I am seeing work order messages for the K items which are obviously not needed.  My assumption is that messages would not be created for those items.

The line type for the K items is S and they are not flagged to suppress MRP messages.  I would prefer NOT to have to suppress the messages (too many SKU's).  Is there another setup step we missed or did incorrectly to exclude the K items from getting messages?
