On and off - java.lang.NullPointerException com.hyperion.reporting.util.HyperionReportException: Er

We have some reports that are executed and I'd say 2 times out of 5 generate the error above.  It could be html, then pdf, or pdf, then html or html then html again.  very inconsistent, other than the reprots will not run more than two times consecutively (i.e. the same report) from Workspace. The error looks like this:
